We are excited to offer Longarm Quilting with our new Handi Quilter Moxie and 10FT Loft Frame, capable of accommodating quilts up to 105” wide and any length. Our Moxie is hand-guided, allowing for free-motion quilting from the front or following patterns from the back. This technique ensures a soft, draped finish without making your quilt feel rigid.
We also provide bespoke custom quilting and basting services. During our initial consultation, we will discuss your design ideas and options before starting the quilting process. The three layers of your quilt—top, wadding, and backing—are loaded separately, so there’s no need for tedious basting beforehand.
The cost of our services includes Glide thread, a durable trilobal polyester option available in various colors. We also offer a 60wt thread for micro quilting. You’re welcome to provide your own wadding or backing fabric, but we can supply Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 wadding for an additional fee.
Before bringing your quilt, please read our “How to Prepare Your Quilt for Longarm Quilting” page via the link below. This will guide you on what’s required and help you stay within your budget. We also offer additional services, such as joining backing fabric, pressing quilt layers, making binding, and unpicking basted quilts, which may incur extra costs.
Quilts are precious, and we value keeping you involved throughout the process. We aim for your complete satisfaction with the finished product. Additionally, we offer a Customer Loyalty Discount for every fifth quilt you have quilted with us.

Edge to Edge Quilting Service
Edge to Edge quilting is when a design is quilted from one edge of the quilt to the
other, not taking into account the block structure of the quilt, and is repeated from top
to bottom of the quilt. There is one thread colour used. The machine is hand guided
from the back of the machine, by either following Pantographs or Groovy Boards of
which I have a good selection, and this is constantly being added to. I can help you
to choose a design to complement your quilt or you are welcome to view them in the
Visual Catalogue we have at the initial consultation. These designs are quicker to
quilt then on a Semi Custom or Custom quilted one, but are still finished
professionally and to the same standard. Sometimes a quilt only needs a simple all
over design so that it does not distract from the beautiful quilt top design.
Edge to Edge quilting also includes a very simple design of hand styled free motion
design of ‘stippling’ to create an all over design.
It is worth remembering that the denser the all-over design is, the less drapey the
quilt will be when quilted. We have plenty of light quilting designs which will give a
lovely soft finish that drapes well without making the quilt feel rigid.
Timescale – With the Edge to Edge quilting service there are fewer design decisions
to be made, which can often allow for a quicker turn around. The size of your quilt
and design chosen will directly impact on how long it will take. Depending on work
and teaching commitments, the quilt can be returned within 3-6 weeks. This will be
confirmed at the time of the initial consultation.
If you need the quilt completed quickly (under 2 weeks) we may be able to do a
Priority Service at an extra cost of £30. This can be discussed at the initial
consultation.
Light Custom Quilting Service
Light Custom Quilting includes an all over (Edge to Edge) design, but instead of
using either pantographs or groovy board designs, the design is created by free
hand ‘drawing’ from the front of the machine directly onto the quilt as the hand
guides the needle over the quilt to create the pattern. This involves good hand/eye
co-ordination. These designs can include a more involved stippling design which
could include flowers, leaves, stars, curls, etc. in addition to the basic stipple going
across the quilt.
It could also include an Edge to Edge design in the quilt centre with a separate
design in the border, including stencil work. It could also include thread colour
changes.
This type of quilting costs more than Edge to Edge quilting due to the increased time
and skill required in creating free motion quilting without pantographs or groovy
boards.
It is worth remembering that the denser the all-over design is, the less drapey the
quilt will be when quilted. We have plenty of light quilting designs which will give a
lovely soft finish that drapes well without making the quilt feel rigid.
Timescale – With the Light Custom quilting service, there are slightly more design
decisions to be made which need to be taken into consideration. Depending on work
and teaching commitments, the quilt can be returned within 4-7 weeks. This will be
confirmed at the time of the Initial Consultation.
If you need the quilt completed quickly (under 2 weeks) we may be able to do a
Priority Service at an extra cost of £30. This can be discussed at the initial
consultation.
Custom Quilting Service
This is the most complex and expensive type of quilting, and is where different
designs are stitched over the quilt to enhance your pieced quilt. Often an overall
Edge to Edge quilting design is not the most appropriate design solution for a quilt. If
this is the case, a consultation can be set up with you (either in person or over the
phone) to discuss your particular needs/wants and the quilt design.
Custom quilting can offer any of the following quilting techniques –
- Stippling in a range of sizes
- Patterned meander (e.g. leaves, curls, flowers, loops)
- Motifs (e.g. Feather wreaths, individual block designs)
- Range of free hand designs (e.g. swirls, feathers, flowers)
- Stitch in the Ditch
- Ruler Work
- Outline or Echo stitching
- Continuous curve borders
- Block designs
- Border designs
- Sashing designs
- Stitching around applique
The amount and complexity of the quilting will directly impact on how long it will take
to quilt. It would be helpful if you are able to email a photo of the quilt top before
consultation so we can suggest a few ideas or have a few quilting design
sketches/plans drawn up prior to the initial consultation. During the consultation the
exact pricing will be discussed as more complex designs could increase the pricing,
but we will endeavour to keep it as close to the guideline as possible. This is why the
pricing for the custom quilting is not set in stone, but priced “as from …”.
It is worth remembering that the denser the all-over design is, the less drapey the
quilt will be when quilted. We have plenty of light quilting designs that will give a
lovely soft finish that drapes well without making the quilt feel rigid.
Timescale – With custom quilting, there is a lot of design decisions to be made
before the quilt even gets to the longarm frame. With the combination of planning a
design and hand guiding the machine to quilt, custom quilting naturally takes more
time. Before doing the quilting, we will discuss and confirm actual designs for the
quilting which can be discussed and agreed at the initial consultation and throughout
the quilting process.
The size of your quilt and complexity of the design will impact on how long it will take
to quilt. Depending on current work and teaching commitments, your quilt could be
returned within 6-8 weeks. This will be confirmed at the initial consultation.
If you need the quilt completed quickly (under 3 weeks) we may be able to do a
Priority Service at an extra cost of £30. This can be discussed at the initial
consultation.
Basting
If you want to quilt your quilt yourself (either by hand or machine), we also offer a
Basting Service. Basting a large quilt by hand is time-consuming, hard on the back
and knees, as well as being difficult for one person to do alone. It can also be hard to
prevent wrinkles on the backing fabric. This service is ideal for quilters, especially
hand quilters, who enjoy the process of completing their own quilts, but need a
helping hand to get the quilt sandwiched together. So why not be good to yourself
and take the stress out of basting the quilt yourself.
The quilt can be basted in either of two options – Channel Basting or Grid Basting,
depending on which quilting method you will be finishing your quilt with. This will be
discussed with you at the initial consultation.
For this service, all you need to do is provide the three layers of the quilt sandwich
and we will baste them together on the frame in whichever basting option that suits
best and return the basted quilt to you to finish. Once you have finished quilting
(either by hand or machine) the basting stitches can be easily removed.
Timescale – Basting allows for a quicker turnaround. Depending on work and
teaching commitments, your basted quilt can be returned in under 3 weeks. This will
be confirmed at the time of the initial consultation.
Quilt Labels
When so much love, care and time goes into creating and finishing a beautiful quilt, a
hand stitched personalised quilt label truly adds the perfect finishing touch.
No quilt is complete without a label, you are the artist, and an artist always signs
their work. Your label preserves your quilt’s heritage. Quilts handed down the
generations that don’t have a label attached become difficult to identify and place – a
frustrating mystery. With a basic label, your quilt will proudly state that you made it,
along with the date and design name – a piece of history in the making.
All a label need’s is some basic information –
- Name of the Quilt Design/Designer (If applicable)
- Quilt topper’s name (your name)
- Quilter’s name (if longarm quilted)
- Date & place where the quilt was completed
If the quilt is being gifted, you may want to add more information on your label, or
even include an extra label with a special poem, saying, quotation or bible verse to
make it more personal. There is something really rewarding and satisfying when you
get to the point when you are hand stitching the label on the back of the quilt.
Applying a label with the details written on with a permanent pen is always an option
and is grand. However, many of us do not like our own handwriting or feel that
stitching a label is way beyond us, so the label is often left off. Whilst a handwritten
label is good, embroidered/stitched labels stand up to washing and there are no
worries about the ink fading, which can happen with pen written labels.
The price for the labels includes good quality (200 thread count) 100% cotton fabric
in either cream, white or beige, or we have a selection of border printed labels that
you can choose from for an extra charge. Depending on your backing fabric we can
also use that fabric to create your label. We can add in some Inktense colouring to
your label for an additional cost, to create a truly special quilt label for that special
quilt.
All labels will be returned with an Iron-on backing interfacing which makes it easier to
apply to the quilt backing for hand stitching without the use of pins and no raw seams
showing.
All details for the quilt labels will be discussed at the Initial Consultation, along with
your choice of thread colour. Each label is created with your own words and
sentiments. For pricing details please refer to our Price List.
Basic Label – We are able to create a basic label which will include the quilt design
name, your name, date finished and outlined with an optional stitched border of your
choice from the selection available – all for one set price. If you require more details
on your label, this will be classed as a personalised label and will incur extra
charges. For further information on personalised labels, please refer to our Price List.
Personalised Label – Sometimes we need a label with more than the basic
information. Maybe the quilt is a gift for someone or to mark a special
celebration/occasion and you would like to include a saying, poem or quotation on
your quilt in addition to your basic label.
We are able to stitch whatever you would like on your label, along with a stitched
border. This will be discussed and agreed with yourself during the initial consultation
where all details, options will be noted down on the Label Work Order form. For
further information on personalised labels, please refer to our Price List

Frequently Asked Questions
No, with our Handi Quilter Longarm Quilting machine, we can take all the hard work out of sandwiching your quilt, as the machine allows us to baste all three layers of your quilt onto the machine’s rollers.
Unfortunately, we are UNABLE to take your quilt if it has already been sandwiched together. We aim to provide a pucker-free quilt, but this cannot be guaranteed if quilting has already started. Therefore, if you wish us to complete the quilting, please undo the layers before drop-off, or additional fees may apply if we need to separate them.
Patchwork fabric is usually 42” wide, while backing fabric typically ranges from 60” to 120” wide. Using extra-wide backing fabric eliminates the need for joining, and can make your quilt reversible depending on the backing fabric chosen.
The backing fabric and wadding should be at least 4” larger on all four sides of the quilt top. For example, a 60” x 80” quilt top requires backing fabric/wadding measuring 68” x 88”. This ensures enough fabric for the side clamps to maintain even tension during quilting.
Remove the selvedges and stitch using a ½” seam allowance, pressing the seam open and flat. For detailed instructions, refer to our ‘How to’ PDF on Creating a Pieced Backing Fabric.
Backings need to be squared to fit the Longarm Quilting Frame accurately. This is essential to prevent puckering during quilting. For more details, see our PDF How to “Square Off” Your Backing Fabric.
Yes, please leave the selvedges on the outer edges of the backing fabric, as they provide a stable edge for placement on the frame. The only time to remove selvedges is when joining two pieces of fabric for the backing.
Our Handi Quilter machine accommodates quilts up to 105” wide on a 10-foot frame, and the length is virtually unlimited. The only restriction is the amount of quilt that can be rolled onto the take-up roller, which depends on the wadding’s weight and thickness.
For local customers, you can book an appointment to deliver it in person. Please do not drop off quilts without first contacting us. Alternatively, if you are mailing it, please reach out to confirm we can take your quilt, then mail it using Royal Mail First Class Recorded (Signed for) Post in a durable postal bag.
Your quilt itself acts as the deposit. Full payment is required upon completion before the quilt is returned. Payment options include Bank Transfer, PayPal, or card payment (in person or over the phone).
