Fixed Circular Knitting Needles

Just with the interchangeable circular needles, fixed circulars enable to knit in the round or back and forth. The difference between the two, is that, the fixed circulars do not come apart – meaning – you are unable to change the tip size/style or the length of the cable. The circulars have a smooth join that ensures easy stitch glide and no snagging. The resilient, flexible cables lay flat with no kink or twist.

The fixed needles are available in smaller sizes than the interchangeable tips, enabling you to purchase needle sizes down to 2mm. They come in different length cables so you need to purchase each length separately which is abit of a down side. The fixed circular needles in this section are 40cm in length, which make them ideal for knitting small projects like socks, mitts and gloves.

However, where I found fixed circulars invaluable is when knitting socks, mitts or any garment with a small circumstance. The benefits of knitting socks or mitts with 2 circular needles are invaluable. It’s easier to keep track of two needles than five, at least for me the sock needles (double pointed needles) will slip out of the stitches if I’m not careful! The stitches tend to stay on the circular needles and because the cable is flexible, the project can be portable and take up very little space in your bag.

It is important to remember that if you are knitting a project like socks or mitts, you will need to purchase 2 sets of the same size circular needles to create a pair. One set of needles will not work for knitting in the round on two needles. If you have not knit on two circular needles before, then you may be interested in Nifty Needles’ starter kits on Knitting socks toe up or mitts.

The circulars are useful for all kinds of projects. The double pointed needles are just for those small projects.
