This design is an alternative to a traditional eight-point star block – featuring sashing crossing through the middle. The pattern will take you through simple and quick techniques to make the ‘building blocks’ of the stars. It is not suitable for a complete beginner but is a great way to progress your patchwork skills and learn how to incorporate sashing into your patchwork. Once you are confident with the cutting and piecing process of this block, this pattern would be a great way to use up smaller pieces of fabric to produce different coloured stars.
The cushion is closed with a zip, which is discreetly hidden midway on the back of the cushion. This is a great introduction to sewing zips in, as the pattern takes your through step by step, using washable basting tape instead of pins which stops your fabric and zips moving while stitching and is a real game changer. Once using this method of sewing zips in, you will never be afraid to sew another zip. The fact that the zip is discreetly hidden under a fold in the cushion back, is a lovely design addition.
The fabric requirements are for ONE If you want to make a matching pair, just double the fabric requirements, or maybe make several in co-ordinating fabric colours to make a lovely set of cushion covers.
