These slippers are a true Kiwi icon and so popular with kiwi babies and mums. They keep feet so warm for in the winter and also cool in the warmer months as the sheepskin is next to their feet. Being made from sheepskin means the outer soles are nonslip, this is so great for when they are learning to walk as they don’t slip on wooden floors. The upper part is knitted which means that the entire slipper is soft and pliable on their feet, right from birth. The sheepskin has been treated without harsh chemicals so they can be used next to babies’ skin. Can be washed in a washing machine on a low temp wool wash. DO NOT tumble dry or dry on a radiator.
These slippers would make a lovely unique present to give a new mum and baby.
The kit contains the soles prepared with the fur trimmed and holes, the knitted pattern instructions for the corresponding slipper size. This pattern is supported with full colour photos to make following and reading the pattern straight forward. The kit does not contain the wool to give you the choice of what yarn and colour you want to make the slippers in. These slippers really work well with the tops being made from handspun yarn – it truly makes these totally natural and all from the sheep (so to speak). I have used both hand dyed and natural handspun in my samples and love how rustic they look. If you would like to knit your slippers from handspun, you are sure to find the ideal yarn in our Handspun category.
The soles and the pattern come nicely packaged in tissue paper and a sturdy box so would also make a lovely gift to someone so they could make the slippers themselves.
The age and foot length given are approximate, but measuring the foot length would give you the better sizing guide. If you are purchasing these as a gift and measuring the foot is not an option, then I would suggest that going by the age is best.
