Description
The Gotland is a native breed of Sweden and one of the oldest sheep breeds. The fleece is generally a greyish colour. The lambs-wool is in demand for its softness and lustre, being long enough to be combed. The older sheep-wool is coarser and not so lustrous. The fleece is also quite curly and similar in some ways to mohair. This yarn would be suitable for mitts, hats or shawls.
The fibre has been left on the bobbin before being wound onto a niddy noddy (to create a skein) for at least a week in order to let the twist settle and remove any trapped energy in the twist. It has then been washed and ‘thwacked’ to remove any further energised twists that may still be in the yarn.
The yarn thickness is in the 1” notch of the wooden gauge.
